Adi Shankara
In the 8th century, Shankara taught how moksha is attained in this life by recognizing the true identity of the individual self as Atman-Brahman, as mediated by the Great Sayings of the Upanishads, especially Tat Tvam Asi, "That you are" -- wikipedia.
